Daria Binkowski, flute

Versatile and adventurous, flutist Daria Binkowski is active in a wide range of musical performances around the world. She has held principal flute positions with the China National Center for the Performing Arts Orchestra in Beijing and the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra in Nishinomiya, Japan. Binkowski has not only pursued an active orchestral performance schedule, but is also heavily involved with the development and performance of contemporary music, and was a founding member and performer with the Talea Ensemble in New York City. 

As a contemporary music specialist, Binkowski has performed with ensembles such as the Seattle Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, and Bang on a Can, and has been a featured performer at the Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music, the Newport Jazz Festival and the Beijing Modern Music Festival. 

Binkowski has worked closely with many young composers at festivals and universities across North America and has given masterclasses in both traditional and contemporary flute technique at the Harvard University, Clark University, China Conservatory and the University of Washington, among others. 

Binkowski received her bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music and her master’s degree from McGill University. She is currently finishing doctoral studies at the University of Washington.
